i engaged myself with flight simulation programs since i had played the ef2000 (eurofighter) from 'digital image design'. this was an older simulation (for dos) but a great one too. it was very tricky to set up a network game, you had to connect two computers via a ppp terminal connection in dos mode, you had to install the tcp/ip or ipx protocol under a running dos system and if that all runs then could you started the ef2000 program after it. in this time i choosen the nickname 'igelei' as my pilots name. f22 'air dominance fighter' and f22 'total air war' had been the next developements by d.i.d. - also quite good simulations with additional features like acmi (air combat maneuvering instrumentation), a feature that allows you to control yourself after a dogfight and gives you the chance to see your maneuveres, for example when you've been hit by an enemy to see how you can make it better in upcomming fights. other simulations i sometimes play are 'pro pilot' (sierra) witch is a good game for it's realistic air traffic control feature, where you can learn a lot of stuff about instrument flight rules, contacting ground control, tower and centers and you are able to get knowledge about flight planning under different weather conditions. and sometimes i used to play the microsoft 'flight simulator 2000' - i got an exemplare before they took it from the table after 9/11, as they had seen that you can exersize crashing into the wtc in this simulation. |
